Amsterdam

Wooden Shoes
by Paul Otteson

Synopsis & Author Comment: This journal entry from a larger round-the-world journey explores the attractions of Amsterdam from a budget travel perspective. The 750-word work is currently archived at Hostels.com. I can easily reform and expand the piece on short notice to suit publication criteria.
Lead Text: "Northwest Airlines' chief European hub is Amsterdam -- a city I'd never visited in my travels. The choice to stop and explore for a couple of days was a no-brainer, especially considering the added benefit of easing the jet lag shock that would come with flying all the way from New York to India. It was a good choice.

Mary and I stayed at one of the renowned Flying Pig hostels. There are three Flying Pigs including two in Amsterdam. We stayed at the "Palace" next to Vondelpark in the museum district. Like other hostels in the capital of Holland, the Pigs cater to many who like to party and come equipped with bars where the Heineken flows and a certain sweet smoke may be wafting."
